GameSenders Starts Selling Games as Video Games Industry Proves Resistant to the Economic Slowdown
Press Release Body:
The video games industry is defying the economic slowdown and sales of big name game and console releases this year have been credited with propping up retail sales.
With the growing cost of food and fuel households are making cuts, and it seems, swapping expensive nights out for fun nights in, and increasing not only renting games but buying them too. In responding to GameSenders’ annual member satisfaction survey (June 2008) 70% of their members said that they would also like the option to buy games from the site.
With this in mind GameSenders are now selling pre-played games at up to 50% off the Recommended Retail Price with Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 & PS3) on offer at €24.99.
The games industry has seen phenomenal growth in recent years and this shows no sign of abating; retail sales volumes in the UK fell .5% less than expected in April; the Office for National Statistics singled out the release of GTA IV and the launch of Nintendo’s Wii Fit for the better than expected results.
Other Highlights from the Survey: • 95% of respondents said that the service they received from GameSenders was Excellent or Good • 86% of respondents said they participate in online forums and of those that do 57% said that they do so on Boards.ie • 61% of respondents said they were a member of at least one social networking site with Facebook and Bebo being the most popular • 86% of respondents said that they do not respond to banner ads and of those that do 67% say they only do so less than once a month.
About the Respondents to the Survey: • 90% male • Average age 28 • 87% in full time employment • 46% degree qualified
About GameSenders: Launched in August 2007, GameSenders is Irelands only dedicated online video game rental service. Our aim is simple, to give Irish gamers the best selection of games to rent for all the latest consoles including the Nintendo DS, Wii, PS3, PSP and Xbox360. Neil Jones, founder and avid gamer, felt that it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with playing the latest releases as games become increasingly more expensive. He says ‘we believe that there is real a gap in the Irish market for a online company that can provide the games people want to rent and play, delivered to their door at a reasonable price’.
